Use the down time to your advantage\u2026.<\/a><\/h2>\n<div class=\"entry-byline\">Posted by <a title=\"DTG\" href=\"https:\/\/defensivetraininggroup.wordpress.com\/2015\/02\/25\/got-the-winter-doldrums-use-the-down-time-to-your-advantage\/\" target=\"_blank\">Defensive Training Group<\/a> on February 25, 2015<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/defensivetraininggroup.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/02\/winter-doldrums.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2806\" src=\"https:\/\/defensivetraininggroup.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/02\/winter-doldrums.jpg?w=627\" alt=\"winter doldrums\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a few things you can do, in no particular order, to help you get through these last formal weeks of winter:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Detail disassemble, clean, and lubricate (\u201cFrog Lube\u201d is the cat\u2019s ass!) your Personal Self-Defense platform.<\/li>\n<li>Check the edge and hone your primary fixed blade \u2018field knife.\u2019\u00a0 If it\u2019s not razor sharp, it\u2019s not ready for the field.<\/li>\n<li>Continue with your regular PT program.<\/li>\n<li>Empty your ruck and LBE\/LBV, and go over it looking for rips\/tears and make repairs as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Repack your ruck and LBE; get your \u2018temperate\u2019 load out set to go (keep your cold weather set up for now\u2026you never know, really.)<\/li>\n<li>Check your compasses for correct operation.<\/li>\n<li>Continue with your\u00a0regular PT program.<\/li>\n<li>Re-read, \u201cA Failure of Civility.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Re-read our series on Basic Patrolling <a href=\"https:\/\/defensivetraininggroup.wordpress.com\/2014\/01\/05\/basic-patrolling-concepts-principles-part-1\/\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/defensivetraininggroup.wordpress.com\/2014\/01\/06\/basic-patrolling-concepts-principles-part-ii\/\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/defensivetraininggroup.wordpress.com\/2014\/01\/06\/basic-patrolling-concepts-priniples-part-iii\/\">here<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/defensivetraininggroup.wordpress.com\/2014\/01\/06\/basic-patrolling-concepts-principles-part-iv\/\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Empty any \u2018ready\u2019 magazines, disassemble them clean and lightly coat the spring with\u00a0a good rust preventative lubricant (\u2018lightly\u2019 means barely discernible) and reassemble.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/defensivetraininggroup.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/02\/armagmaint.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2807\" src=\"https:\/\/defensivetraininggroup.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/02\/armagmaint.png?w=627\" alt=\"armagmaint\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Set up all\u00a0the ammo taken out of your magazines as this year\u2019s \u2018training\u2019 ammo and load your freshly cleaned and lubed magazines with\u00a0\u2018fresh\u2019 ammo.\u00a0 (Tip:\u00a0 To keep\u00a0finger oil off the brass that will eventually cause corrosion, consider wearing rubber gloves while loading the fresh ammo.)<\/li>\n<li>Change up and continue with your regular PT program.<\/li>\n<li>Clean, disinfect and refill your water carrying\u00a0equipment\u00a0with stabilized oxygen treated water.<\/li>\n<li>Practice your dry fire a couple times a week or more with both carbine and pistol (you always ensure you drop the magazine and check the chamber before this practice, right??)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/defensivetraininggroup.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/02\/dry-fire-drill.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2808\" src=\"https:\/\/defensivetraininggroup.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/02\/dry-fire-drill.jpg?w=627\" alt=\"dry fire drill\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Check your field boots for tears, rips, or frayed laces and replace\/repair as necessary.\u00a0 If you wear leather boots, now\u2019s a good time to Sno-Seal them and carefully melt it into the leather with a heat gun on low.<\/li>\n<li>Continue with your\u00a0regular PT program.<\/li>\n<li>Register for our April 25\/26 Land Nav class <a href=\"https:\/\/defensivetraininggroup.wordpress.com\/2015\/02\/23\/essential-skills-land-navigation-1-2-2425-april-2015\/\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Read M.
